To celebrate the Fostering Network's 'Sons & Daughters' campaign, Merton sent gift cards to all of the sons and daughters to thank them for the important role they play and invited a few of them to The Avenue's Children's Centre to meet Councillor Maxi Martin.
Merton has 51 foster carers and over 50 children help support them in caring for vulnerable children and young people.
Merton's cabinet member for children's services, Councillor Maxi Martin said, "Children of foster carers play an important role in making foster children settle into a new family. They often act as a friend, mentor and brother or sister to vulnerable young people. This event is the council's way of showing its appreciation."
Lucy, 13: 'I've got a little foster brother who is a couple of months old. He is very good and I enjoy him being part of our family. We started being a foster family when I was 5 and we have had 11 foster children live with us. Every child can have a different challenge but it's always sad to see them go.'
